Eisley
Beta Bar, Tallahassee, Florida

I usually dislike chic singers. But I love Eisley. I grew to love them even more after their recent appearance at Tallahassee’s Beta Bar. The night of the show I was stressed out from finals week and in a really irritable mood. Long story short I secretly wished there were no opening bands and that I could simply see Eisley from the front row as soon as possible. But when the opening band The Envy Corps from Iowa played their first few notes I turned back to my friends in immediately uplifted spirits, smiling. My entire mood quickly did a 180 as they tore through a set filled with piano, harmonized vocals and an almost U2 style melodic guitar.
The second band, Vedera, was just as much of a surprise. They were fronted by female vocalist Kristen May who had the kind of voice that would give any top front woman, someone like Stevie Nicks, a run for her money.
The perfect line-up continued with the third band The Myriad, who recently earned the title of MTV 2’s Breakout Band of the Year. Their sound was something you may expect from Muse if they came down a few notches from their mainstreamed pedestal and strived only for the means to please the fans in front of the stage. Not only were these opening bands some sort of secret music bombshells, they also put a large amount of effort intp meeting with and talking to all of the kids at the show. All it took was myself standing in front of the merch table to get a “Hi I’m Jeremy, thanks for coming” out of the lead vocalist, something important to me when I attend shows.
After the final opening band, Eisley took the stage. The quintet of family members sure showed their good musical genes. They kicked off the set with “Go Away” from their newest album Combinations. The first few songs of the set seemed kind of like a warm up for the band, and I felt like there should have been a bit more energy. One of the three sisters, Sherri, admitted to us that they were all getting over sickness and I determined this was the reason for the problem. I soon found I had judged too soon because within the next couple songs it was clear that they were back on track and playing perfect live performances of tracks both new and old.
At one point in the set someone in the crowd made a stark comment about a member of New Found Glory that we shall not name. If you are familiar with the situation then you will understand what I mean when I say that Sherri showed some strong girl power and put her heart and soul into the remaining set. She was a very impressively good sport. In between songs the girls shared waters and made jokes with the crowd.
Throughout the set they played Combinations in its entirety. Before the encore they ended with a phenomenal performance of “I Could Be There For You,” probably my favorite song off the new album, and favorite performed song of the night. Here the crowd finally got to hear some solo vocals by lead guitarist Chauntelle, who I personally feel should embrace her striking sound and do more leading.
The show ended with “If You’re Wondering” performed by Stacy and Sherri. All-in-all, it was a great show. I’m glad I got the opportunity to see I band I’ve loved for a while now, as well as three other amazing bands right in my town.
